  • A Sweet and Nice Light Weight: "All Season" Dress
  • Condition: Dress has 2 "mother of pearl" buttons on the back side with a DISTINCTIVE UNIQUE FABRIC that's on-line sourced for a description & has been most likely crafted utilizing CRINOLINE fabric or possibly a fabric to which starch has been applied (see narrative). Smocking is inter-woven with the accent embroidered collar and the short sleeves are also decorated with smocking and lace. Garment is in fine shape sewing and structure wise. Nice for babies dress up or doubles as a vintage doll outfit. Best utilized with a cotton undergarment if employed as a babies dress garment as the rigidity of the fabric may be abrasive to tender skin. . Probably pre-1950's.

    Description

    Way Vintage Infant Doll Dress Unique Crinoline Fabric Wide Frame Lace Accented
    First, a definition of CRINOLINE fabric, and it's use, from Wikipedia:   "...is a stiff or structured petticoat designed to hold out a women's skirt popular at various times since mid-19th century."  The center detailing of the front panel is intricately stitched embroidery. The dress closes in back with 2 well crafted mother of pearl buttons . The embroidery and lace work  on the front of the collar, are a perfect compliment to the smocking on the front, rear and sleeve ends of this dress.
    This dress measures as shown in photos #2-4 with the unique aspect of having a full width as shown in photo #4....24" is a wide birth for a formal display doll dress or a cute babies garment.
    Wikipedia goes on:  "Crinoline is described as a stiff fabric made of horsehair ("crin") and cotton or linen which was used to make underskirts and as a dress lining.  By the 1850's the term was more usually applied to the fashionable silhouette provided by horsehair petticoats."  This description is not repeated here to imply that this garment is from that era, only to give you some idea ot the fabric and it's "stiff qualities" which are best utilized as a  doll display function. If worn as a baby garment, a cotton slip would be advantageous to avoid the potentially abrasive qualities of the stiff material.
