Marauder II can make back-up copies
of Commodore Amiga Floppy Disk Software!
A couple of bad things about early Commodore Amiga floppy disk based software:
1. You had to "Kickstart" boot / start-up from the ORIGINAL Factory Diskette
- taking the chance that the process might ruin the expensive software and knowing that every time you used it, it added
MORE WEAR AND TEAR
, since floppy disk drives are CONTACT media- the magnetic disk head rubs right on the spinning, thin, disk media,
scraping it each time
, and even worse, a dirty disk head would scratch physical groves in to the media, making the disk irreparably defective!
2. Much of the commercial software, e.g. Top Games and Productivity software, used COPY PROTECTION techniques
, so:
you had to boot from or install from the ORIGINAL factory diskette, and
normal Amiga Workbench Copy methods would FAIL to copy the disk
- designed to prevent making illegal copies, even if you legally purchased the software! Once again, you were one bad boot away from destroying your only disk!
3. Much of that early 1980's software is hard to find / replace and often the old disk media is in poor condition, so it is essential to make a preventative, legal BACK-UP COPY of your aging disks, before the original disk wears out or fails!
It is usually a good practice to make SEVRAL back-up copies to make sure that at least one survives.
Marauder II CAN MAKE these vital duplicate disk copies,
whether the software is Copy Protected or Not!,
so it is a critical utility for anyone's valuable Amiga Software collection!
Note that even Marauder II CAN'T copy ALL Amiga disks,
as some may already be damaged, use copy protection techniques created after Marauder II was released, etc., but should be able to copy most 1986 era and before, working disks, so it is important to back-up as much of your collection while you still can.
